Privacy Policy

Last Updated: Feb 12, 2026

1. Introduction

PillProof (“we,” “our,” or “us”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how your information is handled when you use the PillProof mobile application.

We operate on a “Privacy by Design” philosophy: your health data belongs to you and stays under your control. PillProof is funded through app purchases, allowing us to operate without advertising or selling user data.

2. Data Storage & Security

PillProof is designed as a privacy-first app. Your data stays on your device unless you choose to use iCloud backups or Caregiver Sharing (CloudKit).

Health Data

All medication schedules, logs, notes, and history are stored locally on your device or within your personal iCloud storage (if device backups are enabled). We do not have access to this data.

Video & Image Proofs

Photos and videos recorded as proof of medication intake are stored directly on your device’s local file system. We do not upload or access these files.

Caregiver Sharing (CloudKit)

If you choose to share your medication history with a caregiver, PillProof uses Apple CloudKit to securely sync selected history records—including optional photo or video proofs—with the invited caregiver.

  • Sharing is fully controlled by you.
  • You may stop sharing at any time.
  • Access can be revoked instantly.
  • PillProof does not have access to shared content.
  • All data transmission and storage are handled entirely by Apple’s CloudKit infrastructure.
  • PillProof cannot view or read your CloudKit data.

No Third-Party Health Data Servers

PillProof does not operate external servers for storing medication history, photos, videos, or health information. We cannot view or access your personal data.

3. Information We Collect & Use

PillProof does not create user accounts or collect personal profiles.

A. User-Entered Information

You voluntarily enter medication names, dosages, schedules, and notes. This information remains on your device.

B. Camera & Microphone Access

PillProof requests access to the Camera and Microphone only to allow you to record video proofs or voice memos related to medication intake.

  • Recordings are stored locally.
  • They are never shared with us or third parties.
  • Sharing only occurs if you explicitly export or share data.

C. Medication Search (External API)

To help you add medications more easily, PillProof uses a public API provided by the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NIH / RxTerms).

  • When you type a medication name, only that text query is sent.
  • No personal data or health history is transmitted.
  • Searches are anonymous and informational only.

PillProof does not use analytics, advertising SDKs, or cross-app tracking.

4. Payments & Subscriptions

PillProof offers optional Premium features via Apple In-App Purchases, including Monthly (with a 7-day free trial), Yearly, and Lifetime plans.

  • All payments are processed securely by Apple.
  • We do not receive or store payment or billing information.
  • The app stores only a local flag indicating Premium access.
  • Subscription status is verified using Apple’s App Store services.

5. Data Retention & Deletion

You are always in control of your data.

  • Manual Deletion You may delete medications, history entries, photos, or videos at any time within the app.
  • App Deletion Deleting the PillProof app permanently removes all locally stored data from your device.
  • Auto-Deletion
To manage storage and protect privacy, PillProof automatically deletes local photo and video proofs after a defined retention period (e.g., 7 days). If photo or video proofs were shared with a caregiver via CloudKit, the app is designed to remove shared copies when:
    • The retention period expires, or
    • Sharing is revoked by the user.

Note: PillProof does not control or access caregiver devices directly.

6. Export & Sharing

You may export your medication history as PDF or CSV files to share with a doctor or caregiver.

  • Exports are created locally on your device.
  • Files are shared using the iOS Share Sheet.
  • PillProof does not access, view, or intercept exported files.

7. Changes to This Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated to reflect feature changes or legal requirements. You are encouraged to review it periodically.
